Frequently asked questions
What is a School Assistant, and which children is it for?
A School Assistant (AVS) is a professional who accompanies a child directly at school, during lessons, helping them follow instructions, manage transitions and stay included in their class. It is designed for neurodivergent children — autism, ADHD, dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties, attention disorders — who need individual support to cope well in a mainstream school.
How does the placement work in Dakar?
Everything starts with an Assessment & Observation: we meet the family, evaluate the child's real needs in their school context, then select an assistant matched to their profile — age, condition, school level and the school itself. Support then begins according to the chosen plan, half-day or full-day.
How do I know what happens at school during the day?
Every parent gets a personal space where the assistant shares a report after each session — with a photo or video where relevant. The parent space is available in English and in French.
Which areas of Dakar do you cover?
Plateau/Médina, Point E/Fann, Mermoz/Sacré-Cœur, Almadies/Ngor, Yoff, Parcelles Assainies and Rufisque/Diamniadio. Get in touch if your area is not listed — we look at every request.
Do you work with English-speaking families?
Yes. Our assistants support children in international, French and Senegalese school systems, and the parent space is fully available in English. Conversations with the office can be held in English throughout.
Ready to get your child the support they need?
The initial assessment is the first step, whichever plan you choose afterwards.
